Job Description:

Receive grain, maintain grain quality, blend and load out grain to optimum grain specifications and maintain elevator grounds, facilities and equipment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees as directed by the supervising Location Manager.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unload grain and/or fertilizer from rail cars and trucks. Direct grain based on grade to proper bin.
  • Blend and load out grain thru truck and rail to meet contract grade and weight specifications in order to maximize profit.
  • Responsible for grain bin measurements.
  • Inspects locomotive after each use to assure it is ready for the next train.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance and housekeeping in elevator and surrounding facilities. Responsible for keeping the RCI record system of maintenance and housekeeping activities in the appropriate log books and applicable computer program.
  • Recommend repairs and improvements to Location Manager. Take an active role in producing and adhering to a yearly budget.
  • Responsible for monitoring and recording temperature cables, walking flats, tracking fan usage, monitoring bunker storage, monitoring grain dryer output and other location specific duties to ensure exceptional grain inventory quality and actively reduce shrink. Keep detailed records of all inspections In RCI.
  • Maintain a productive relationship with all outside vendors to insure repairs are made in a timely manner.
  • During the appropriate season a high number of overtime hours will be required for long periods of time.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times. A class A CDL may be required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma and three to five years of grain quality and shipping experience.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.Ability to write effective correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to learn accounting and inventory software related to grain accounting.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times. A class A CDL may be required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Within parameters set by Location Manager the Grain Superintendent will directly supervise employees in the location. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include involvement levels of interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
